I’ve been reading about chicken coops, how to build one and how to raise chickens. The whole idea makes me really excited; I get super giddy around chickens, they’re so fun! My goal with having chickens is to provide us with eggs, droppings for compost, natural insect and weed control, and companionship. I’m also really interested in giving them names. :)
There are a few specifications to consider when building a coop, like the sizing and height of perches, ventilation, fencing and doorways, and space per chicken in the outside “yard” area and indoor private areas. We’ll need an easy way to gather eggs and a method for collecting the droppings. Selecting a location on our property for the coop relative to the sun is also important.
