What is RSS?
RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”. Websites that support RSS have what is called an RSS Feed. Think of it like email for websites, or the difference between having your newspaper delivered (RSS instant updates) versus going to the news stand to get it (loading a website manually).

To read an RSS Feed you need an RSS Reader. These are computer programs that reside either on the web (as a website that you go to) or on your computer as an application.
RSS Readers
We recommend a web-based RSS Reader because you can use it whenever you are in front of an internet-connected computer (not just your own PC at home). Our favorite is Google Reader.
Here is a video that introduces Google Reader in about 1 minute:

Other RSS Readers are available, such as Bloglines and NewsGator. Both are free and will also do the job, but we like the simplicity and reliability of Google Reader, especially since we already use Gmail and Google Calendar.
To subscribe to Our Farm Adventure’s RSS feed, just cut-and-paste the link below and click the “Add subscription” link in Google Reader (it’s in the left hand column, with a light green background).

Google Reader can also be used to keep track of other popular sites like CNN, The New York Times, and the BBC as an example. Using RSS instead of surfing the web will allow you to get instant updates and save time. If you have any questions about how to get this set up, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
